How To: Transfer Your iPhone Contacts, Messages, Apps and Other Data to the Samsung Galaxy S4

One of the most common things about switching to a new phone is migrating your contacts, calendar, SMS messages and apps over to the new phone. However, transferring your content can get a little complicated if you are switching manufactures and operating system, for instance- iPhone to Samsung Galaxy (iOS to Android). Fortunately, the new Samsung Galaxy S4 has a new feature- the Smart Switch app that can make this task a lot easier.

Samsung Smart Switch is a desktop application (currently for Windows only, but a Mac release is coming up soon) that handles the migration of your current smartphone’s content over to the Galaxy S4. The app covers Messages, Contacts, Calendar, Photos, Music, Alarms, Wallpapers and tries to match apps on your old phone with apps available on Google Play. Smart Switch supports transfers from iPhone, Nokia, Blackberry, LG and other Samsung smart-phones.

The following example will be transferring data from the iPhone 4S to the Galaxy S4.

Step 1: Backup your iPhone to iTunes

Plug in your iPhone onto your PC and open up iTunes, then click the top right devices button to select your phone.

Step 2: Download the Samsung Smart Switch App

Head over to http://www.samsung.com/us/smart-switch/ and download the Smart Switch application.

Step 3: Transfer Your Data

Connect your Galaxy S4, and once your phone gets detected you’ll be asked to transfer your data to the new phone.

All of your existing phone’s backed up data will be presented to you by category. Check the data you wish to move over to your new phone, and hit Start transfer.

That’s it- Check your Samsung Galaxy S4 to see if all your data got transferred.
